AG-8Z-Based Arc Groove Forming Solution: A Look at Our Custom Roll Grooving Capability
Standard grooves do not meet every pipe processing requirement. In real projects, customers may work with different pipe materials, connection methods, and forming needs. Some applications require special groove profiles, such as arc-shaped grooves, outward grooves, or other non-standard forming structures.
Recently, we customized an AG-8Z automatic roll grooving machine based on a customer’s actual processing requirement. The machine was modified for arc groove forming on metal pipe fittings. This was not simply a replacement of one accessory. The project required targeted adjustments around the groove profile, roller matching, and overall machine stability.
Redesigning the Forming Solution for a Special Groove Profile
AG-8Z is originally designed as an automatic roll grooving machine for batch pipe processing. With its stable machine structure and hydraulic feeding system, it can handle many standard grooving jobs in workshops and on job sites.
In this project, however, the customer needed a special arc-shaped groove instead of a standard groove profile. To achieve this result, our design team re-matched the forming components based on the AG-8Z platform, allowing the machine to form the required arc groove according to the customer’s application.
For this type of customized project, the goal is not just to “press a groove” on the pipe. The groove profile needs to be close to the required shape, while pipe support, rotation, and feeding must remain stable throughout the forming process.
A Mature Machine Platform Makes Customization More Reliable
AG-8Z was selected as the base machine because it already offers strong structural stability and automatic feeding capability. For special groove forming, a reliable machine platform is an important starting point.
If the machine body is not rigid enough, or if the pipe rotation is unstable, it will be difficult to achieve a good forming result, even with the correct forming rollers. Building the solution on a mature machine platform helps reduce development uncertainty and makes the final solution more practical for the customer.
This is also one of our main approaches to roll grooving machine customization: start with a mature machine platform, then adjust the structure, rollers, or functions according to the customer’s processing target.

This arc groove forming project reflects our flexible customization capability in roll grooving products. When customers have special processing requirements, we can evaluate the machine solution according to pipe diameter, pipe material, groove shape, forming depth, and actual working conditions.
Some requirements can be achieved by changing the rollers. Others may require adjustments to the machine structure, pipe support method, or hydraulic feeding system.
